DIU WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENT, DIU U.T.
Initial Idea Represented
Project Details :
presents a viable solution to address the persistent traffic congestion along the creek-side road, particularly during peak tourist seasons. The development, envisioned as a 40-meter-wide and 1500-meter-long strip, aims to redirect pedestrian traffic from the narrow road to a newly constructed waterfront area. This area incorporates wide walkways adjacent to the creek, complemented by diverse gardens, a cafeteria, a craft market, a public plaza, and an amphitheatre designed for cultural events. By providing an alternative, attractive pedestrian zone, the project seeks to alleviate pressure on the existing road network, thereby enhancing the overall tourist experience and mitigating traffic-related issues. The proposal, submitted to the collector's office, leverages the underutilised space along the creek to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing public space that caters to both tourists and the local community.
while respecting its heritage and cultural identity. Diu's inclusion in the smart cities program in 2015 underscores the government's recognition of this potential. The proposed urban space near the waterfront promises to reshape the city's skyline and, upon implementation, transform the lives of its urban inhabitants, ushering in a new era for the community.
