• The existing 30–40-year-old residence of the Hon’ble Mayor of Ludhiana is modest in scale, comprising only two bedrooms, a living area, kitchen–dining, and servant quarters. Given the stature of the office, the residence needs to perform multiple roles: a dignified family home, a place for hosting guests, and an interface where the Mayor can engage meaningfully with citizens while maintaining privacy and security.

• The rear portion of the existing bungalow, shaded by mature trees and animated by filtered natural light, presents an ideal location for the proposed extension. This area allows the new residence to be developed without disturbing the functioning or character of the existing house, while fully benefiting from the serene landscape setting.

• The proposed building is a Ground + First Floor structure, designed as an extensive yet sensitive addition. It accommodates six bedrooms, a family living room, kitchen and dining, and a separate citizen-interaction living space intended for meetings and public engagement. The first floor houses two bedrooms, a library, and an exercise room, creating a private retreat for reflection, wellness, and focused work.

• The eastern edge of the site abuts a dense residential neighborhood overlooking the Mayor’s vacant plot. To address privacy and contextual sensitivity, all service and buffer functions—including parking, kitchen, staircase, prayer room, and utilities—are strategically placed along this side. In contrast, the living rooms, bedrooms, verandahs, and open terraces are oriented toward the landscaped areas, ensuring visual openness, tranquility, and strong indoor–outdoor connections.

• All existing trees are retained and integrated into the landscape design, reinforcing the ecological character of the site and enhancing microclimatic comfort. The overall planning adheres to Vastu principles, ensuring harmony, functionality, and cultural relevance throughout the design.
